Gregory Canyon Trail

Gregory Canyon starts at the base of Flagstaff road and heads up to Realization point. Gregory Canyon provides a somewhat steep and occasionally rocky hike through a canyon lined in spring with wildflowers and is a great place to spot chipmunks and squirrels as well as brush-loving birds.
The trailhead features a creekside picnic area that is well shaded. If you'd like to avoid the OSMP parking fee at the trailhead you can park at Chautauqua Park and follow the trail that tracks along Baseline Road over to the Gregory Canyon Trail or start at Chautauqua trail, and connect via Bluebell-Baird Trail.
Early along the trail, note the apple and plum trees and be careful of the poison ivy that lines the sides of the trail.

Highlights |
Nice but sometimes technical canyon hike. One of the better wildflower hikes in spring. Many fruit trees at the lower trail segment attracting deer (and occasionally bears). Lots of brush birds, chipmunks on the rocky outcrops. Access to Green Mountain. |

Directions to Gregory Canyon Trail
Gregory Canyon is accessed most rapidly by parking at the Gregory Canyon trailhead just at the base of Flagstaff Road, where Baseline Road becomes Flagstaff Road. However, there is an OSMP parking fee at the trailhead.
An alternate option is to park at Chautauqua Park and hike over to Gregory Canyon along Baseline Road or from Bluebell-Baird trail.
History of Gregory Canyon
Gregory Canyon is named after gold miner John Gregory and served as the main route to the mines at Black Hawk in the 1860's. Ernest Greenman is thought to have planted the many apple trees along the trail.
