Button Rock Preserve: Sleepy Lion Trail
Sleepy Lion Trail offers a nice hike through meadows, ponderosa, and douglas fir pine trees with minimal elevation change. Sleepy Lion Trail is named as such because long ago a ranger in the area observed a mountain lion asleep here. The area is a nice balance of creeks and streams. The region is very good for seasonal wildflowers, especially the Pasqueflower. The trail leads to Ralph Price Reservoir which is generally stocked with brown and rainbow trout. A special permit is required for fishing here. The end of Sleepy Lion Trail also connects to Hall Ranch via Nighthawk Trail.
The initial portion of the area is along Longmont Dam road and is suitable for strollers and is wheelchair accessible.
