Bald Mountain, Pines-to-Peak Trailhead

Bald Mountain and the Pines-to-Peak trail make for an easy hike with distant views in all directions, with few trees to obstruct the view. The remains of an 1886 homestead and cattle farm are found at the trailhead. The area features plenty of parking, picnic tables, restrooms, and benches along the trail to take in the view. Bald Mountain trail makes for a nice easy hike just up Mapleton from in Boulder.

Directions to Bald Mountain

Bald Mountain is roughly 5 miles west off Sunshine Canyon Dr which is the extension of Mapleton Dr into the foothills.

History of Bald Mountain

Cattle grazing began in this area as early as 1886 with some cattle ranching implements still visible at the trailhead. Miners Frank and John Weist began mining at Bald Mountain in 1896.

Bald Mountain became the Parks and Open Space's first public open space in 1973.
